Gas Tank Location Requirements
The Iowa Utilities Board requires certain safety standards in regards to the installation and location of LP gas tanks and/or gasoline dispensing barrels near electrical facilities. Safety codes require a 500 gallon LP gas tank fill port to be at least ten feet from the metered disconnect on a meter pole. A 1000 gallon LP gas tank fill port must be at least 25 feet from the metered disconnect on the pole. In addition, any part of the LP tank needs to be a least six feet away horizontally from a vertical plane of the 7,200 volt primary line.
If you have a gasoline dispensing barrel, the code requires a minimum of 20 feet between the metered disconnect and the gasbarrel. It also requires a minimum of three feet between the metered disconnect and the hose nozzle at full extension.
